I want to work for my kids: Loyiso’s ‘killer’ told court

Loyiso Nkohla-Mabandla murder accused wants the court to free him on bail to allow him, among other things to work for his teenage children. Mzubanzi Chulayo(42) applied for bail on Wednesday 24 July at Athlone Magistrate’s Court, Cape Town.

Chulayo’s lawyer Monde Maguga read his client’s affidavit in which the accused denied being involved in murder.

“I submit that I’m not guilty of the charges against me,” part of the affidavit read by Maguga stated.

John Reyneveld representing the state said Chulayo was not a good candidate for bail. The court heard that Chulayo has four previous convictions and a pending case in Cofimvaba Magistrate’s Court.

“The accused’s propensity towards crime is not for petty but serious violent crimes,” advocate John Reyneveld. He added that a warrant of arrest was also issued at Bellville Court last year in June after Chulayo failed to appear in court. The prosecutor said from that background, Chulayo will likely evade justice.

Chulayo who was arrested together with two other suspects had previously abandoned his bail but later changed his mind. His lawyer told the court that Chulayo was one convicted of murder and he attended the court while he was on bail. He said that should count in favour of the accused as the court considers the application.

The bail judgement will be delivered on the 1st of August.

Loyiso’s wife said it was disgusting that Chulayo wanted bail to work for his children yet Loyiso’s children do not have a father anymore.

Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid: Ancelotti Confident Ahead of Champions League Showdown

0

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti underlined the team’s focused stance before their Champions League semi-final showdown against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.

Despite Bayern’s recent slip in domestic form, Ancelotti stressed the importance of European experience, pointing out the Bavarians’ impressive track record in the tournament.

“We are confident facing a team that, despite a lacklustre Bundesliga performance, displayed great prowess in the Champions League tie against Arsenal,” Ancelotti remarked during a press briefing.

“In the Champions League, history carries weight, it’s significant for them but also works in our favour.”

Both teams come into the match with noteworthy achievements. Bayern dethroned in the Bundesliga and secured a semi-final berth for the first time in four years by defeating Arsenal.

Real Madrid, on the flip side, ousted reigning champions Manchester City in the previous round and are on track to claim their 36th La Liga title.

Ancelotti drew parallels between the teams’ adaptability and warned against underestimating Bayern, led by departing coach Thomas Tuchel.

“We are two teams with somewhat ambiguous identities … and we can approach games in various ways,” Ancelotti observed.

“But it’s just the first leg, it’s a 180-minute tie which we face with confidence … but knowing we’re up against a quality opponent with formidable individual talents.”

Amid speculation about the starting line-up, Ancelotti remained elusive, particularly regarding the defensive partnership alongside Antonio Ruediger. The impressive defensive displays by France midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni could earn him another nod from the coach.

“(Tchouameni) will feature tomorrow… But in what role? I’m unsure…” Ancelotti teased.

Eder Militao’s comeback to the starting XI after a lengthy injury provides Real Madrid with depth in defence, bolstering their chances against Bayern’s attacking threat.

Real Madrid’s thorough preparation underscores the significance of the semi-final clash as they aim to gain a crucial edge in their quest for European glory.

Inkatha Party Prepares for Elections Five Years in Advance for Positive Results: Hlabisa

0

In a recent interview on SAFM, IFP President Velenkosini Fakudze Hlabisa discussed the party’s long-term electoral strategy.

He emphasized the importance of planning five years ahead of elections.

“We consolidate three planning options into one strategic approach. After the split with the NFP in 2011, we were left with only two municipalities, Ulundi and Msinga. By 2012, I was tasked with leading the team to develop strategies to recover from this setback. We organized for the 2014, 2016, and 2019 elections. Although we saw a decline in 2014, we regained 13 municipalities by 2016,” explained Hlabisa.

He continued,

We planned again for 2021, 2024 to 2029. Since 2021, we have recaptured a significant number of municipalities in KZN, taking 15 wards from the ANC in KZN. In this election, we aim to reclaim KZN decisively. We are also growing in Gauteng, North West, Free State, and Mpumalanga. Nationwide, we are aiming to secure many more seats to strengthen our voice, especially aiming to make significant inroads into the executive in Gauteng,” Hlabisa added.

EFF Secretary-General Marshall Dlamini Convicted of Assault and Property Damage in 2019 Parliamentary Incident

0

Marshall Dlamini, the secretary-general of the EFF and head of security, has been found guilty of assault and property damage in an incident dating back to February 2019.

During an altercation in the Parliament lobby after the State of the Nation Address, Dlamini struck police officer Johan Carstens, resulting in facial injuries and broken glasses.

The Cape Town Regional Court did not accept Dlamini’s defense that he was acting to stop a potential assassination attempt on EFF leader Julius Malema.

Magistrate Nasha Banwari dismissed Dlamini’s claim that he had been informed of a threat to Malema, which he believed was about to be carried out via a “poison injection.”

Consequently, Dlamini faces charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and malicious damage to property.

The sentencing for these convictions has been deferred to May 31, with Dlamini remaining free on bail until that date.

The incident left Carstens with a 3cm wound on his nose and additional facial injuries, as described by Dr. Lynne Swarts, who attended to him immediately after the altercation.

The EFF maintained that their heightened security measures during the SONA were in response to credible threats against Malema.

MK Party Calls for Immediate Resignation of Electoral Commissioner Janet Love

0

The MK Party has issued a demand for the resignation of Janet Love, a key commissioner at the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC).

The party accuses Love of exhibiting bias and engaging in actions that jeopardize the fairness and integrity of the electoral process.

According to the MK Party, Love’s questionable conduct includes prematurely declaring President Zuma ineligible to run in elections without adhering to established procedures.

They also highlight her controversial role in overseeing the audit of voter registration in the Democratic Republic of Congo, suggesting these actions reflect a pattern of prejudicial behavior.

The party has given Love a seven-day ultimatum to step down, failing which they intend to initiate legal proceedings. This move underscores growing tensions and concerns over electoral integrity within the region.
