Millions of Facebook users around the world are experiencing issues accessing the social media platform after a widespread outage struck on Sunday.
According to outage-monitoring platform Downdetector, reports of problems with Facebook surged dramatically at approximately 10:09 a.m. ET, jumping from just five reports to more than 3,500 within minutes, indicating a widespread service disruption.
Users across multiple countries reported being unable to log into their accounts or use key Facebook features. Many said they were unable to upload photos or videos, while others experienced problems sending messages through Facebook Messenger.
The desktop version of Facebook also appeared to be inaccessible for many users during the outage.
Those attempting to access the platform were greeted with the following error message:
“Account Temporarily Unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes.”
The disruption quickly sparked a wave of reactions on other social media platforms, with users turning to alternative apps to confirm whether the issue was widespread.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, had not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the outage at the time of publication.
It remains unclear how many users have been affected or when full service will be restored.
