Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti underlined the team’s focused stance before their Champions League semi-final showdown against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.
Despite Bayern’s recent slip in domestic form, Ancelotti stressed the importance of European experience, pointing out the Bavarians’ impressive track record in the tournament.
“We are confident facing a team that, despite a lacklustre Bundesliga performance, displayed great prowess in the Champions League tie against Arsenal,” Ancelotti remarked during a press briefing.
“In the Champions League, history carries weight, it’s significant for them but also works in our favour.”
Both teams come into the match with noteworthy achievements. Bayern dethroned in the Bundesliga and secured a semi-final berth for the first time in four years by defeating Arsenal.
Real Madrid, on the flip side, ousted reigning champions Manchester City in the previous round and are on track to claim their 36th La Liga title.
Ancelotti drew parallels between the teams’ adaptability and warned against underestimating Bayern, led by departing coach Thomas Tuchel.
“We are two teams with somewhat ambiguous identities … and we can approach games in various ways,” Ancelotti observed.
“But it’s just the first leg, it’s a 180-minute tie which we face with confidence … but knowing we’re up against a quality opponent with formidable individual talents.”
Amid speculation about the starting line-up, Ancelotti remained elusive, particularly regarding the defensive partnership alongside Antonio Ruediger. The impressive defensive displays by France midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni could earn him another nod from the coach.
“(Tchouameni) will feature tomorrow… But in what role? I’m unsure…” Ancelotti teased.
Eder Militao’s comeback to the starting XI after a lengthy injury provides Real Madrid with depth in defence, bolstering their chances against Bayern’s attacking threat.
Real Madrid’s thorough preparation underscores the significance of the semi-final clash as they aim to gain a crucial edge in their quest for European glory.
