Mobeni CPF member’s son allegedly kills mom’s lover and gardener for keeping affair secret

0

The usually quiet suburb of Mobeni Heights has been rocked by a brutal double murder allegedly committed by Wasim Kudoos (32), the son of well-known community activist and former CPF Sub-Forum Chair, Aslam Kudoos.

According to early reports, Wasim allegedly gunned down his mother’s lover and the family’s male domestic helper in what witnesses have described as “a cold-blooded execution.”

“I couldn’t believe my eyes,” said one neighbour who witnessed the incident. “I was getting my hair done when Wasim just walked in and started shooting — right there in front of everyone. No hesitation. No emotion.”

The victims’ names have not yet been officially released, but community sources claim the violence was sparked by a love affair involving Wasim’s mother, Fiona Kudoos, and a local Pakistani barber. It’s believed the domestic helper was also targeted because he allegedly knew about the affair and kept quiet.

Residents say the Kudoos family has long been surrounded by controversy. Allegations of corruption, drug dealing, and fraud have followed Aslam for years — including accusations of misusing funds meant for a community CCTV project and selling a CPF vehicle.

“This family’s been drama from day one,” said another resident. “Everyone’s been talking about their scandals for years, but nobody thought it would end in murder.”

Police at SAPS Bayview have opened a double murder docket and confirmed that investigations are underway. Officers are expected to release more details once the victims’ families have been notified.

What began as whispers of an affair has now spiralled into tragedy, leaving a community reeling and demanding answers.

This is a developing story — updates will follow as more information becomes available.

Durban Baboon Drama: Young Primate Finally Captured After Days on the Loose

0

A juvenile baboon that had been roaming parts of Durban has finally been safely captured after several days of tracking and rescue attempts.

According to the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW), the animal was first seen in Umbilo last weekend near Wilson’s Wharf before disappearing from view. It was later spotted at a nearby warehouse, where the owner managed to lock it inside while CROW volunteers prepared a baited trap.

However, the baboon managed to escape once again, prompting a search across properties, roads and railway lines. CROW, working with the Durban and Coast SPCA and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, also attempted to dart the animal, but those efforts were unsuccessful.

“While one of our team members managed to net the baboon, she managed to break out of the net and escape,” CROW said.

A second trap was eventually successful, allowing the team to capture the baboon safely. The animal has since been transported to CROW’s facility, where it will stay until another baboon — believed to be its mother — is also caught.

Carol Booth of Monkey Helpline explained that the animals are out of place in Durban. “Baboons are not endemic to Durban and this little one will not find any of its own kind. We do hope he or she is rescued and returned to be with other baboons,” she said.

It is suspected that the baboons may have stowed away on a vessel from Cape Town and disembarked at Durban Harbour.

Anyone who spots the second baboon is urged to call 082 411 5444 or 082 659 4711.

Both drivers of the smaller vehicles sustained moderate injuries. They were treated on scene and stabilised by Advanced Life Support paramedics before being transported to a nearby hospital for further care.

The truck driver was not present when paramedics arrived. Witnesses at the scene claimed he fled following the accident, though this has not been officially confirmed.

Drunk Driver Nabbed on N2 After High-Speed Chase, Says MEC Duma

0

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, has praised motorists and traffic officers for helping to apprehend a drunk driver who caused chaos on the N2 near uMtubatuba on Sunday night.

The driver, who was reportedly speeding, overtaking on solid white lines and swerving into oncoming traffic, nearly collided head-on with Chief Provincial Inspector Thulani Mthembu of the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI).

Inspector Mthembu gave chase and, with the assistance of vigilant road users, managed to stop the vehicle about a kilometre down the road.

“We commend motorists and members of the public who worked with our highly efficient, energetic, and dedicated team from Road Traffic Inspectorate to ensure the arrest of this unruly motorist,” Duma said in a statement on Monday.

A breathalyzer test confirmed the suspect was three times over the legal alcohol limit of 0.05g/100ml. He was taken into custody at KwaMsane Police Station, where a case was registered under number 200/09/2025. The driver faces charges of drunk driving as well as reckless and negligent driving, and is expected to appear in court soon.

Duma linked the incident to previous tragedies on the same stretch of road, noting that three members of the Mavimbela family had died in a horrific crash there just weeks earlier.

The MEC also raised concerns about an earlier case in which a drunk driver who caused multiple crashes on the N3 and allegedly assaulted an RTI officer was mysteriously released.

“It will be an abdication of my responsibility not to support our RTI team. They have responded positively and with agility to my mandate that they should be firm and sustain the Zero Tolerance, No Nonsense, and Alufakwa campaign,” Duma stressed.

He revealed that 93 drunk drivers were arrested in the province over the past weekend, pushing the tally to 293 arrests since August 2025.

“The increase in arrests is a clear indication of the efficiency and dedication of RTI,” Duma said, adding that he plans to personally attend some of the court proceedings against drunk motorists to support traffic enforcement teams.

Clairwood High Principal Under Fire Over Alleged Rentals to Undocumented Workers

0

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education has launched an inquiry into allegations surrounding late-night operations at Clairwood Secondary School in Durban’s south.

The controversy erupted after the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party accused the school of leasing its hall to a textile business that, according to them, was employing undocumented foreign nationals.

Video footage that surfaced online last week showed members of the MK Labour Desk confronting the principal inside the school grounds. In another clip, MK representatives are seen interrogating workers during a night shift inside the hall.

MK Party spokesperson Mlungisi Zondi claimed the group intervened after the principal allegedly failed to terminate the company’s agreement.

“And we we kicked out the illegal foreign nationals. The principal said they had an agreement with the SGP to rent the hall to raise funds as the school does not have funds,” said Zondi.

The Department of Education has confirmed it is aware of the situation. Spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi said officials are working to resolve the matter urgently.

“We hope to find a way forward as quickly as possible,” Mahlambi told Newswatch.

The probe will determine whether the school’s fundraising arrangements breached departmental regulations and if any action should be taken against those involved.

The victim of Monday’s shocking shooting at a popular Westville pub has been named as 48-year-old Taryn “Blondie” Le Roux. Her 63-year-old husband was arrested on the scene and is expected to face a charge of murder.

The fatal incident unfolded just after 1:30pm at Waxy O’Connor’s on Jan Hofmeyer Road, directly opposite Westville Boys High School. The dispute turned violent when the man allegedly drew his firearm and shot his wife in full view of horrified patrons.

DRK Tactical Response Units, who were in the vicinity, were among the first to respond. Their officers entered the pub and found Le Roux lying on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds, while the suspect remained inside.

“The suspect surrendered without resistance and was handed over to SAPS Westville,” DRK Tactical confirmed.
