A man believed to be in his forties has been killed in a horrific crash on the N3 highway near Cato Ridge this afternoon.
According to ALS Paramedics, emergency teams were called to the scene just after 1:30pm following reports of a serious collision involving a truck and a car on the Pietermaritzburg-bound carriageway.
When paramedics arrived, they were met with scenes of devastation. The car had slammed into the rear of the truck, leaving the driver trapped inside the mangled wreckage. Despite their best efforts, paramedics found that the man had sustained fatal injuries, and he was declared dead at the scene.

The eThekwini Fire Department was called in to assist with the recovery operation, while traffic on the busy highway was severely affected as authorities worked to clear the scene.
At this stage, the exact circumstances surrounding the crash remain unclear. SAPS were in attendance and have launched an investigation into the incident.
