A notorious taxi owner from Umzinto, on KwaZulu-Natal’s South Coast, has been shot dead in what appears to be a targeted hit.
Bongani “Steh” Mnguni, a well-known and feared figure in the region’s taxi industry, was killed on Thursday afternoon by unknown gunmen while at a local garage.
Mnguni, who had long been accused by rivals and community members of involvement in extortion, intimidation, and several violent incidents, was reportedly ambushed while seating outside a garage. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as multiple shots rang out, sending bystanders scrambling for cover.
Police have not yet confirmed the motive for the crime.
