An amarteur video of the scene of a tragic crash that reportedly killed artist Bokang Moleli, better known as Malume Vector, has surfaced on social media.
Malume Vector tragically died in a car accident on Wednesday afternoon.
He was travelling with upcoming artist Lizwe Wokuqala, who also lost his life in the crash.
The singer’s booking manager, Thato Pebane, confirmed the news to Sunday World on Wednesday evening, stating that the team and family will release a formal statement on Thursday morning.
News of the Lesotho-born hitmaker’s passing began circulating after the Lesotho Times reported the incident on their Facebook page.
“Unconfirmed reports indicate that a popular Lesotho musician, based in South Africa, died in a car crash this afternoon. Two more people also died,” the publication noted.
A close friend of Malume Vector, who wished to remain anonymous, told said that the singer was travelling with his artist, Lizwe Wokuqala.
“It is not yet clear where they were going, but it is him and Lizwe who were in the car that I know of,” the friend said.
Malume Vector, a multi-platinum-selling artist from Lesotho, made a name for himself in the South African Afro-pop and hip-hop scene.
He rose to fame with hits like “Dumelang” and “Nobody” after being discovered by Ambitiouz Entertainment in 2020.
He controversially left the record label last year to start his own, The Whole Time Entertainment, and secured a distribution deal with Ingrooves Africa (Electromode).
Lizwi Wokuqala was his first artist, and they just released his latest single, “eLesotho,” last week.
On his hit song “Dumelang,” a collaboration with Durban rapper Baq Diamond, Malume Vector said he meant “Dumelang” to the world, a Sotho greeting meaning “Hello.”
Growing up amidst the hilly landscapes of Maseru, Lesotho, Malume Vector always had grand visions for himself. “I grew up with mountainous views as my backdrop and enjoyed herding livestock while dreaming of what lies beyond the horizon and imagining all the possibilities life has in store for me,” he once told the media.
With his unique fusion of hip-hop, Afropop, and elements of famo (Sotho folk music), he relentlessly pursued his dreams, eventually relocating to South Africa.
News of his passing comes as he was working on new music.
