Two men were killed in the early hours of Friday morning following a devastating collision between a truck and a light motor vehicle in the heart of Durban’s CBD.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said emergency teams were called to the intersection of Anton Lembede Street and Stewart Simelane Street just after 05:30am.
“Paramedics arrived on scene to find absolute carnage,” Jamieson said. “A light motor vehicle had T-boned a truck and become wedged underneath it. Two men, the driver and his passenger, were found severely entrapped in the wreckage.”
Members of the eThekwini Fire Department were dispatched to assist with the extrication, but despite their efforts, both men, believed to be in their thirties, had sustained catastrophic injuries. They were declared dead at the scene.

Authorities cordoned off the area while the South African Police Service (SAPS) began investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
“The cause of the accident remains unknown at this stage,” Jamieson added.
The double fatal crash caused major traffic delays during the morning rush, with emergency services remaining on scene for several hours.
