Two adult females and two minor children were burnt beyond recognition after their informal home caught alight on Tottenham Road in Parkgate.
Residents contacted the local rapid response company to assist with the situation. When the first responders arrived on scene they found the occupants trapped inside the blazing house.
The Ethekwini Fire & Rescue Services arrived shortly after and extinguished the fire. After that, they found four charred remains in the rubble.
Among the deceased, there was an elderly woman who was believed to be the grandmother to the two children who also succumbed to this fire.
The second adult female who was also in the fire was not IDed as she was unknown to the residents.
The circumstances leading to the fire were not established at that stage.
