Durban Metro Police Warn Motorists of Legitimate SMS Notifications for Unpaid Fines

The Durban Metro Police Service (DMPS) has issued a public notice alerting motorists that official SMS notifications are now being sent to individuals with outstanding traffic fines.

According to the department, the messages are legitimate and form part of an official municipal campaign to encourage the prompt settlement of unpaid traffic fines.

The message will read:
“Dear Motorist, you have outstanding Traffic Fines, for enquiries, please contact Durban Metro Police on 031 311 2862/3 or email Traffic.Fines@durban.gov.za.”

Authorities stressed that the SMSes are not scams, as they are sent directly from the Municipality’s verified communication system.

Motorists are urged to take the notifications seriously and to make payments only through official municipal platforms.

For verification or further enquiries, motorists can contact the Durban Metro Police via email at Traffic.Fines@durban.gov.za or call 031 311 2862 / 031 311 2863.
