A tragic accident occurred on the Hella Hella Road outside Richmond towards Ixopo, claiming the life of a woman this Wednesday morning.
The incident, which took place just before 7am, saw ALS Paramedics and multiple ambulance services responding to a chaotic scene involving a truck carrying labourers.
Upon arrival, paramedics found that the truck had somehow lost control, veered off the gravel road, and collided with a tree.
The impact left approximately sixty workers with various injuries.
Emergency services worked swiftly to stabilize the injured before transporting them to hospitals in Pietermaritzburg and Durban for further treatment.
Tragically, a woman believed to be in her fifties suffered major injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.
Despite the best efforts of paramedics, there was nothing they could do to save her.
At this stage, the exact cause of the crash remains unknown.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) were on the scene and have launched an investigation to determine the events leading up to this devastating accident.
