Makro’s E-Waste for Vouchers Program Put on Hold

Makro’s initiative to exchange e-waste for vouchers this weekend has been temporarily suspended.

Last weekend, the retail chain saw an overwhelming response as thousands of people flocked to their stores nationwide, hoping to trade in old cellphones, appliances, and electronic goods for Makro vouchers valued at up to R600.

Despite the enthusiastic debut of the campaign, it has been postponed for the time being.

Massmart spokesperson Brian Leroni explained, “While participation exceeded our expectations, and queues formed at some locations, it would be an exaggeration to call it chaotic.

Nevertheless, this was our first venture into rewarding customers for recycling e-waste, and we acknowledge the need for a more efficient process due to the high turnout.

Therefore, we have decided to reevaluate and revamp the program before its relaunch.”
