A taxi boss is in serious condition after being targeted in a brazen shooting that led to his vehicle overturning in Emona just outside Tongaat KwaZulu-Natal, on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred on an unpaved road when two unidentified vehicles overtook the victim’s silver Toyota Fortuner and opened fire. The gunshots forced the taxi boss to swerve off the road, causing his vehicle to careen down an embankment before overturning.
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Tongaat Operations Centre received an emergency call from concerned residents at approximately 19:37, prompting Reaction Officers to be dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered the overturned vehicle but found that the injured man had already been privately transported to the hospital.
RUSA spokesperson Pram Balram confirmed that the extent of the victim’s injuries, including the number of gunshot wounds, could not be determined at the time. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
This attack has heightened concerns over the safety of taxi industry figures in the region, as similar incidents have been reported in recent months.
Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
